Gals Panic S3

I’d wondered for a while what ‘Gals Panic S3′ would be like. The last Kaneko ‘Nova’ platform release, it released 3 years after the prequel (Gals Panic S2), and after some failed (never released) experimentation with a 3d addon for the hardware, I always wondered if it would add anything of it’s own to the system, in terms of either hardware, or as a unique game.

A few days ago, Uki dumped a copy of it, and I hooked it up to the driver for him.

Somewhat disappointingly it worked straight away, the hardware was 100% stock ‘Nova’ hardware. I guess it should be testament to the driver that it ‘just worked’, but part of me was hoping they’d added something new, or it would reveal some new bugs for me to fix.

The actual game seems to be a stripped down version of the previous Gals Panic S games, with more focused gameplay, it feels like everything has been chopped down to the minimum for the gameplay to function, from the ‘frontend’ to the gameplay, everything seems very immediate. There doesn’t really seem to be much new, a lot of the graphics are recycled from the previous game, as is the gameplay, which probably explains why it didn’t require any work to support in the driver. The biggest shame is that the attract loop is so short, just a single level where nothing really happens.

I don’t know if this ’streamlined’ style was a design choice, or just the results of a company running out of money and wanting to put something out quickly as a last resort, but overall, it works fairly well. There’s nothing spectacular, and if you’re looking for something new, not especially interesting, but it acts as a good summary as to what Gals Panic is about.

.. and of course, they managed to squeeze some Engrish in there anyway, DICIDED!

I’m wondering if the Gals Panic 3 MAME was ever completed, and if so, where I might be able to download it? Or when it might be finished? I noticed that you were working on it a few months ago. In my opinion, it’s by far the best of the Gals Panic series, can’t wait till it’s available. Thanks so much, Mark

LMAO at DICIDED.
Anyway, recicled or not, this game style is so cool, the serie is great, and i wanna play it.

That’s it!

Gals Panic 3 is playable, although there are graphic glitches. A working PCB is really needed for reference and maybe tests, it’s impossible to guess everything as the layer mixing seems rather advanced compared to the other GP games.

Also, please don’t ask for / post ROM links here, it presents a legal risk I’d rather avoid, thanks!

OK thank you very much for your response!
So, is it OK to ask when a version of MAME might be released that supports it? Or, does the most current one support it? Sorry to bother you, it’s just such an awesome game. I used to play it all the time around the year 1995, in a tiny “arcade trailer” on the side of a road in Krakow, Poland. No kidding….

All current versions of MAME have GP3 as a ‘playable’ game. As I said, there are some graphical issues tho, and I can’t guarantee that they won’t annoy you.

I can’t give any date on the remaining issues as it’s completely out of my control and a working PCB at a reasonable price will need to be found (it’s preferable if it’s a new revision too, as there should be other versions of GP3)

(: I’m not annoyed, it’s awesome and very playable, thanks.

Hey guys, i found a youtube video of GPS3.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPBctzfcpI4

Is the rom available already?

Posted by: anon at March 9, 2009 23:44

Gals Panic S3 is supported in current releases, yes (and on a decent PC works better than shown in the video, which seems to have some stuttering framerate problems

However, no rom locations can be supplied here, as stated above, sorry.

Is it released yet? or is it every going to be released? :)

I’m not asking where to find it. I just want to confirm its existence so I can someday locate it myself.

Haze,in Mame0.130u1 the taito gnet driver has sound bug that all the games music not hook up yet

Posted by: johnsmith at March 22, 2009 03:35

taito g-net games (as well as taito fx1b ones) use a (currently) unemulated CPU for music. as a result, only effects are playing during a game
